Windows Server Standard 2012 R2 (Non-Profit License)

  • Please noteThis license does NOT come with any client access licenses (CALs) by default. You must purchase them separately or choose from the options above. Please make sure that you have a total of 5 licenses in your cart if this is the first time you're ordering Microsoft licenses from us.

Microsoft Windows Server Standard 2012 R2 allows a computer to act as a print, web, and/or file server. It is also used as a domain controller capable of responding to security authentication requests like logging in, permission checking, and more. In addition, Server Standard can serve as the platform for other server applications such as Microsoft Exchange Server or Microsoft SQL Server (purchased separately). The Standard Edition is perfect for small or medium non-profit organizations with physical or lightly virtualized environments.

You will be purchasing one license. Each license is good for two physical processors on the server and up to two virtual instances of the server software. For additional licensing information, review the 'Licensing' information below.

    Benefits for Non-Profits and Churches

Use Microsoft Windows Server Standard 2012 R2 to:

    • Optimize server workloads
    • Produce testing environments in a short amount of time
    • Run multiple server types and/or varying operating systems on a single server

    Major Capabilities

    • Server management: Server roles are easy to maintain, manage, and protect. Manage multiple servers within a single console.
    • Failover clustering: Makes your server continuously available and easily scalable to fit your workloads so that service disruptions are always minimal.
    • Integrated web publishing services: Windows Server 2012 integrates Internet Information Services (IIS), ASP.NET, Windows Communication Foundation, and SharePoint Services so that you have one complete platform for web publishing.
    • Application server: Deploy and run custom created applications built using Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.
    • Server virtualization: Use Hyper-V to create and manage a virtual server environment. Native Hyper-V Replica tools allows you to copy a virtual machine from one location to another without the need for storage arrays or shared storage.
    • DirectAccess: Given the appropriate permission rights, you can access the network from any computer or mobile device for off-site access to files, on-site equipment, and other resources; faster than using VPN connections.

    Downgrade Rights

By purchasing Windows Server Standard 2012 R2, you are also eligible to install up to two versions prior of the application at no additional cost (i.e. you can install Windows Server Standard 2008 or 2003). Installing previous versions will remove the per processor/per core licensing requirement seen below.

    Licensing

The minimum number of licenses required is determined by the number of physical processors. Each license covers up to two physical processors per server. For a dual core machine, you will need one license; for a quad core machine, you will need two.

Each Server Standard license allows you to run two instances of the server software in a virtual environment. Multiple Standard edition licenses can be combined to run additional virtual environments. Additional virtual instances can be added by purchasing additional server licenses; two virtual instances are added per license.
